Take Both Fall Classes!
These are 2 Day Workshops
Saturday 2-5pm & Sunday 10am -4pm
INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE:
1. September 13 & 14 - Adire Batik: Wax Resist Fabric Design
Adire batik is a traditional Yoruba dye-resist textile art in which fabric is patterned by applying hot wax to areas meant to remain undyed, then immersing the cloth in an indigo vat. The wax acts as a barrier, preventing the dye from penetrating, and after dyeing, it is removed— revealing striking designs where the cloth has resisted the color.
2. September 27 & 28 - Adire Oniko: Fold, Twist, Tie Fabric Design
Adire Oniko is a traditional Yoruba indigo resist-dyed textile design technique from Nigeria. The word “Oniko” comes from the Yoruba word “kò” meaning “to tie.” It includes methods that use raffia, string, or thread to tightly bind areas of cloth before immersing it in the indigo vat. In essence, Adire Oniko is the tie-and-dye branch of Yoruba indigo textile arts, prized for its bold circular and linear patterns, and its deep connection to Yoruba cultural expression.
